1 dead, 1 hospitalized after SUV backs into barber shop

Two men were taken to a hospital after being struck when an SUV backed into a barber shop in Vanier on Tuesday afternoon, Ottawa paramedics say. Police say one of them has died. (Dan Taekema/CBC)Social SharingOne man has died and another was seriously injured when they were struck by an SUV that backed into a barber shop in Vanier on Tuesday afternoon, according to Ottawa police and paramedics.

Emergency crews attended a scene at CuTzz Barber Salon on McArthur Avenue east of the Vanier Parkway around 5:40 p.m., according to paramedics on Tuesday.

Ottawa police said Wednesday morning a 29-year-old man died of his injuries on the way to a hospital. They did not identify him.

A 32-year-old man who was also struck was taken to hospital in serious, stable condition.

The 57-year-old woman driving faces an impaired driving charge, police said. They allege she was impaired by drugs.

McArthur was closed after the crash but has since reopened.
