2 arrested for harassing DU students, trying to pull her into car in North Campus

Two first-year law students, Abhimanyu and Abhinav, have been arrested by Delhi Police in connection with a complaint by a Delhi University student who alleged that she and her friend were harassed and abused by men travelling in a Safari in Delhi's Mukherjee Nagar area.

Police said both accused were sitting in the same vehicle involved in the incident. The female student, in a video posted on social media, alleged that the occupants of a Safari passed obscene remarks at her and her friend, abused them and later followed them. She further claimed that when they stopped to record a video, the occupants tried to pull them inside the vehicle.

The student said her friend took out her phone, following which the car fled.

The two women then approached a nearby police station but were allegedly told that the area did not fall under its jurisdiction. The student claimed they spent four to five hours trying to register their complaint.POLICE TRACED THE VEHICLE

Delhi Police said a written complaint regarding an eve-teasing incident near Hakikat Park was received during the intervening night of September 23 and 24.

During the inquiry, police traced the vehicle to its registered owner and found that Naman Kumar was driving it. He was accompanied by two to three other people, police said.

An FIR was subsequently registered at Mukherjee Nagar police station under Sections 78 (stalking), 79 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Police said further investigation is underway.- Ends
