2 killed in plane crash during night flight near Kisbey, Sask.

(Harv's Air)Social SharingTwo people are dead after a Cessna 172 plane crashed near Kisbey, Sask., according to a statement from Adam Penner, the president of Harv's Air, the flight school the plane was registered to.

According to the statement, two people were on board the flight from Regina to Steinbach, Man., via Carlyle, Sask., on a night cross country flight early Friday morning.

Both people in the planes were licensed pilots who rented the plane to gain time toward their commercial pilot licences, Penner said in an email to CBC.

The plane was reported to the Transportation Safety Board of Canada as overdue to arrive at 10:30 a.m. CDT.

According to Lieutenant Zoë Hollander, a public affairs officer for the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, Trenton, the JRCC led and coordinated the response to the overdue aircraft.

"A CC 138 Hercules from 435 squadron successfully located the crash site, and then inserted search and rescue technicians by parachute," Hollander said.

She said after the search and rescue was complete, the JRCC transferred the case to RCMP.

The statement from Penner said the plane was located by search and rescue at approximately 6 p.m. CDT and both occupants were found dead at the scene.

"The entire Harv's Air family is shocked and saddened by this tragedy. Both pilots had close ties to their fellow students and instructors. We extend our deepest condolences to family and friends," Penner said in the statement.

This is the third incident involving the St. Andrews, Man., based flight school since January 2025.

An instructor employed by Harv's Air was struck by the propeller of a small aircraft as a student attempted to start its engine and was seriously injured in January 2025.

In July 2025, two student pilots were killed when their single engine planes collided mid-air during a training exercise.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada, along with Transport Canada and the RCMP are working with Harv's Air to determine the cause of the crash according to the release.
