6 standouts from Packers' Week 2 win over the Jets

Remember when Rocky Balboa gets the crap beat out of him but never gives up? I guess that's all the Rocky movies, but it could serve as a good depiction of the Green Bay Packers' 20-17 come-from-behind overtime win over the New York Jets.

On the first offensive drive of the game, Green Bay lost starting slot receiver Jayden Reed (neck) and starting right tackle Zach Bako-Bewele (knee) to significant injuries. If those weren't enough, the Packers continued to commit self-inflicted wounds in the form of 14 penalties.

With just over 11 minutes left in the fourth quarter, they trailed 17-7. Then, Green Bay scored 13 unanswered to secure a comeback win in overtime.

Van Ness appeared to be coming into his own in 2025 before a foot injury sidelined him for nearly half the season. Turns out, the former first-round pick's breakout was just delayed. Through the first two games, Van Ness has already exceeded last season's sack total. In the first quarter alone, he had a tackle on third down to get the defense off the field, a tackle in punt coverage, a 3-yard tackle for loss, and a third-down sack on the same drive. Then on fourth-and-1 with under two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, the Jets handed the ball to Braelon Allen, but Van Ness came crashing down the line to stop it for no gain. In overtime, Van Ness combined for a half-sack with rookie Dani Dennis-Sutton to help force the three-and-out that led to the game-winning field goal. It was probably the best game of Van Ness' career, finishing with 10 combined tackles, four quarterback hits, three tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, and a career-high seven pressures, per Pro Football Focus.

Not that it's surprising, but Cooper had another strong outing, finishing with eight total tackles, three tackles for loss, and a sack. He was extremely impactful in seven reps as a blitzer on Sunday, registering three pressures. His sack came on third down during the fourth quarter to help stall a Jets' drive at midfield. Cooper appears to be making a jump in year 3.

Green Bay signed Moore to a one-year deal in the offseason in hopes that he would give the return game a boost. Well, that overlooked move paid off in a big way in Week 2, as Moore combined for 208 yards on kick and punt returns. Meanwhile, the Packers offense had 199 yards in total. It was Moore's 63-yard punt return that set up the late game-tying field goal with less than three minutes left in the fourth. For once, Green Bay's special teams were one of the key reasons why they won rather than lost.

Last week, Smack showed off his leg by drilling his first regular-season attempt from 59 yards, the longest field goal made on a player's first career NFL attempt and the second-longest in Packers' franchise history. This week, he showed his clutchness by making the game-tying field goal with 2:59 remaining and then the walk-off winner in overtime. Both kicks were less than 35 yards, but still. The rookie didn't have a great start in training camp, but has been basically lights out since the preseason.

He extended a drive in the first half with a taunting penalty, but Bullard was otherwise excellent, breaking up two passes and creating four stops against the run. He also dumped Breece Hall on a swing pass for a 3-yard loss, and his tackle for loss on Hall on a second-down play in the fourth quarter helped create a stop.

Four catches for 58 yards doesn't jump off the page, but Golden also created two defensive pass interference penalties for 61 combined yards (23 yards, 38 yards). He had a crucial third-down conversion on the second half touchdown drive, and the second penalty he drew got the Packers out of a 1st-and-25 hole. In overtime, Jordan Love found him for a 14-yard gain to beat a corner blitz in overtime, setting up the game-winning field goal. Big plays in big spots from Golden.
