Once again this year, Bangkok and the surrounding provinces are facing serious flooding. Once again, residents are calling for solutions, while the authorities promise that the flooding problem will be addressed.

There is no doubt that the amount of rain that fell on Bangkok and the surrounding areas in a short period was extreme. Bangkok's drainage and pumping systems were operating at maximum capacity.

However, I also read that wastewater and drainage water from neighbouring provinces such as Nonthaburi and Pathum Thani are discharged into the same drainage system that serves Bangkok, adding pressure when the city is already struggling to cope with exceptionally heavy rainfall.
