Two policemen have been confirmed killed in an ambush in Benue State on Monday, three days after suspected Fulani herdsmen killed four others in the same state.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, Benue State Command, DSP Peter Orchia, told The Guardian on the telephone yesterday that the two officers were part of the security personnel deployed at Ayilamo, where four officers and seven civilians were killed three days earlier.

Also, the Chairman of Logo Local Council Area, Clement Kav, told The Guardian that the officers were ambushed after Kwatan Sule, a fishing settlement near Ayilamo community, while escorting the Divisional Police Officer of Ayilamo, who was returning from official duties in Makurdi.

He added that the bodies of the officers have been deposited at a mortuary in Ayilamo.

However, a resident who gave his name as Asema Asenge alleged that the attackers were armed Fulani militia camping in the forests and deserted villages within Tombo ward.
