Ahmedabad Rural Police and Railway Police have arrested four people within hours of a sensational gold robbery at Nadiad railway station and recovered the entire stolen haul worth around Rs 3.75 crore, officials said.

Police recovered 2.90 kg of gold, along with two cars allegedly used in the crime, five mobile phones and Rs 8,900 in cash.

The robbery took place around 5 pm on October 3 at Nadiad railway station in Gujarat’s Kheda district. The accused allegedly targeted a businessman carrying 2.90 kg of gold worth around Rs 3.75 crore.

According to police, the businessman showed presence of mind after the robbery and followed the accused. He also managed to take a photograph of their vehicle, which helped investigators begin tracing them.

The Government Railway Police (GRP) immediately examined CCTV footage from the railway station and identified a suspected Tata Tiago car. Details of the vehicle and the suspects were then circulated to the state control room.

Ahmedabad Rural Superintendent of Police Omprakash Jat said the information reached the district police around 7.30 pm, following which teams began mapping the suspected escape route.

Investigators used the vehicle's registration details and mobile phone call data records to establish a connection with Banaskantha. The Local Crime Branch (LCB) subsequently traced the suspected Tiago.

Police also discovered that a second vehicle, a Maruti Baleno without a rear number plate, was travelling behind the Tiago.

Based on information about the suspects' possible route towards Sachana and Viramgam, the LCB and Viramgam Town Police set up roadblocks to intercept the vehicles.INSPECTOR CLINGS TO MOVING CAR

Police managed to stop the Baleno before it entered Viramgam and arrested one of the suspects. During questioning, the accused told investigators that three other members of the group had continued ahead in the Tiago with the stolen gold.

Police then used the arrested accused to obtain information about the location of the Tiago and track the remaining suspects.

Inspector SA Gadhvi, Inspector Paresh Jani and teams from Viramgam Town Police and the LCB reached the location and surrounded the vehicle.

According to SP Jat, the suspects tried to flee after seeing the police and rammed their Tiago into Inspector Gadhvi's vehicle. When they attempted to reverse and escape, Gadhvi ran towards the moving car and grabbed its door.

The accused allegedly dragged the inspector for around 500 metres as they continued driving. Despite the dangerous situation, Gadhvi managed to open the vehicle's door, gain control of the steering and pull the emergency handbrake, bringing the car to a stop.

Other police personnel immediately reached the vehicle and arrested the suspects. One accused managed to flee towards nearby fields but was later caught after police surrounded the area.GOLD RECOVERED FROM CAR

Police said the stolen gold was found concealed inside the seat cover of the Baleno.

The recovered property includes around 2.90 kg of gold worth approximately Rs 3.75 crore, the Tata Tiago and Maruti Baleno used in the crime, five mobile phones and Rs 8,900 in cash.

Police have begun further legal proceedings and are investigating the roles of all four arrested accused, as well as the circumstances surrounding the robbery.- Ends
