AI - the story of greed and capitalism

One of my relatives is a lawyer. Once his housemaid started having serious problems with her husband. They were on the brink of divorce. This relative of mine being a lawyer was requested by the housemaid to help mediate and calm the situation down. He got involved. In the process that took weeks, he started getting intimate with the housemaid. After that point, he realised that for as long as the housemaid remained separate from her husband and continued to have problems, he would have the opportunity to enjoy time with her. And that is exactly what he did. Shame on him. However, that is exactly what happens when any involvement in any type of situation is redirected from a noble cause and stated intentions to achieving power and control over the situation and turned into one that is profitable for the one that holds the power. The early Muslim scientists, such as Al Beruni, Al Khwarzimi, Al Haitham and many others made key contributions toward the understanding of science, without which humanity wouldn't have marched forward with unleashing the power of scientific discoveries. Yuval Noah Harari makes a compelling argument in his popular book Sapiens that from early on science was driven by and advanced with capitalism. The desire for profit and money making drove the quest for scientific knowledge and technological advancement. That contrast between the advancement of scientific knowledge – done by those who loved knowledge and science and the nature of things because Islam had put enormous emphasis on the quest for knowledge – and the technological development driven by capitalism and greed is the wall between a thriving humanity and one that is pacing toward self-destruction. In the movie Don't Look Up, there are a few in the society that are creating awareness about the coming disaster so as to avert it through collective action and there is one rich entrepreneur who is trying to profit from it. That rich entrepreneur eerily reminded me of that relative of mine. The result was disaster. Everyone dies. Yuval Harari also admits in his book that science made human beings deadly. The tools we have been making for centuries such as industries, vehicles, airplanes and so forth that consume fossil fuel will eventually lead to the death of the planet and every life form that calls this planet home. Weapons could be used for self-defence but when profit is sought from them then it makes sense to make countries go to wars. Facebook could connect people but it realised that it is more profitable to make people fight with each other. Artificial Intelligence is here and it is not just something that completes a sentence for us or writes an article for us. It doesn't just create images and videos. Every deadly thing starts out as something providing utility. The Hugging Face episode is just the beginning of this dangerous threat where AI agents broke out of the testing environment, created their own bots and launched cyberattacks. The industry's leading experts are sounding the alarm over this frankenstein. They can kill all human beings. Just to give a perspective, that day is nearer in the future than the day humanity might live on Mars. The reaction to these alarms is an unabated development of AI. The rationale of those who are pushing humanity toward this collective suicide is that if they don't profit from it, someone else would. We are so wired for benefit and profit in the now and here that we don't pause long enough to realize what tomorrow will look like. The fossil fuel industry had known about the threats to the environment since the 1970s but they put a tight lid on that revelation. A dangerously hot planet will kill their grandchildren but the benefit then trumped everything. As a matter of fact, humanity has burnt more fossil fuel since knowing about it being the number one cause behind global warming, than before knowing this fact. It is not AI. It is not fossil fuel. It is not the weapons. The root of all evil is capitalism.
