Alex Eala to face Chinese Taipei's Joanna Garland in Asian Games QF - GMA Network

Alex Eala will square off against Joanna Garland, the highest-ranked player of Chinese Taipei, in the women's singles quarterfinals of the 2026 Asian Games tennis competition.

Eala opened her Asiad redemption campaign on a convincing note, pulling off a 6-1, 6-0 win over Patcharin Cheapchandej of Thailand in the Round of 16 on Monday.

But standing in the Filipina ace's way is Garland.

The 25-year-old Taiwanese star is currently ranked No. 143 in the WTA rankings and is the best tennis player in her country as of posting.

Garland is coming off back-to-back sweep victories in the Round of 32 and Round of 16 to open her Asian Games run, blanking Martaa Chogsomjav of Mongolia and Iran's Mandegar Farzami, to earn her place in the round of eight opposite world No. 18 Eala.

Eala and Garland have yet to face each other in a WTA tournament, although they were on track for a first meeting at the Singapore Open before both players bowed out in the second round.
