Amazon introduces thinner, lighter Kindle e-readers. See upgrades - USA Today
Book lovers looking to upgrade their Kindles now have more portable, lightweight options.
Amazon announced in a news release this week that the newly designed devices are thinner and lighter than the brandโs previous e-readers. The company is also releasing accessories such as a hands-free Bluetooth page-turner and an upright charging dock.
The new Kindle devices have been redesigned without the raised border that hides parts of the reading surface.ย
Amazon released its first-ever Kindle in November 2007, noting that the device โreads like paperโ and allows customers to read blogs, books, magazines and newspapers. In 2025, users read more than 720 billion pages on Kindle devices, the company said.ย

Kids Kindle (available starting Oct. 1)

Amazon said it is also releasing some accessories, including a Kindle Click for $34.99, or a Bluetooth remote readers can use to turn pages while theyโre under the covers, on a treadmill or traveling. Itโs compatible with all new Kindle devices and Kindle models from 2024 or later.
Thereโs also a magnetic cover for $79.99 that has physical page-turn buttons for the Paperwhite Signature Edition and Colorsoft Signature Edition.
Amazon is releasing a charging dock for $59.99 that keeps the Paperwhite Signature Edition and Colorsoft Signature Edition upright and charged.
The e-commerce and tech giant is also selling Kindle Covers starting at $39.99 that wrap fully around Kindle devices.
