Millions of Social Security beneficiaries are set to receive their September payments this week as the program follows its normal distribution schedule.
The next round of checks will be sent Wednesday, Sept. 16, to recipients born between the 11th and 20th of any month. The payment is the second wave of Social Security benefits scheduled for September.
Social Security benefits are generally paid on Wednesdays and distributed according to a beneficiary's birth date. Recipients born between the 1st and 10th receive checks on the second Wednesday of the month, those born between the 11th and 20th are paid on the third Wednesday, and beneficiaries born after the 20th receive payments on the fourth Wednesday.
For retirees and other recipients wondering whether a payment is headed their way this week, here's who qualifies for Wednesday's distribution and how the rest of the September schedule breaks down.
Beneficiaries who were born between the 11th and 20th day of their birth month are set to receive their monthly Social Security benefit on Wednesday, Sept. 16, according to the SSA’s payment calendar.
Social Security benefits – mainly paid to recipients who are older or retired – are typically paid on Wednesdays.
If a recipient’s birthdate is between the first and 10th of the month, they are usually issued payments on the second Wednesday of the payment month, according to the SSA’s calendar. Recipients born between the 11th and 20th are paid on the third Wednesday, and those born after the 20th are paid on the fourth Wednesday.
Individuals who receive both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) can expect their Social Security payment on the third day of the month and their SSI payment on the first day of the month.
Recipients of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) checks typically receive payments on the first business day of the month. The payment for September was sent on Tuesday, Sept. 1.
