Asian Games: Alas Women sweep Mongolia, arrange battle for 9th vs. Hong Kong - GMA Network

Alas Pilipinas Women cruised to back-to-back sweep victories after blanking Mongolia, 25-13, 25-11, 25-20, in the classification round of the 2026 Asian Games women's volleyball on Monday in Japan.

Alas dominated the first two sets before needing to fend off a gritty fight from the Mongolians in the third frame, arranging a battle for ninth place against Hong Kong set on Tuesday.

Angel Canino led the way with 12 points built on 11 attacks and one block while Bella Belen and Alyssa Solomon chipped in 10 and nine markers each as they followed up on a dominant thrashing of Qatar on Sunday.

After two one-sided sets, Alas had to adjust in the third as Mongolia mounted a fightback, cutting the deficit to four, 21-17, following a service error from Mars Alba.

But Alas responded with a 3-2 run capped by a Belen attack that clinched the match point for the Filipinas at 24-19. Mongolia saved one point courtesy of a Enkhkhuslen Purevsuren attack, but Nitura soared from the left wing to finish it off and complete the straight-sets victory.

Alas, which ended up winless in the group stage, will now look to end its Asian Games campaign on a winning note as it takes on Hong Kong next.
