At just a gram and eight millimetres, Srikakulam researcher’s wind turbine enters International Book of Records

A wind turbine that stands eight millimetres tall and weighs one gram has earned Maheswaram Bhanu Chandhar, a young researcher from Narasannapeta in Srikakulam district, a place in the International Book of Records.

Mr. Bhanu Chandhar built the turbine from copper sheets, a small DC motor and a dab of enamel paint. It spins without a sound. The International Book of Records recognised it as an innovative project and presented him a certificate recently for a world record.

He teaches in the Electrical and Electronics Engineering department at Sri Sivani College of Engineering in Chilakapalem, Srikakulam district, where the management and his colleagues congratulated him on the recognition.

“The tiny turbine is functional and useful in space technology and robotics in future. I will continue further research on the project,” he told The Hindu. His research has centred on smart grids and renewable energy systems. “I intend to conduct extensive research on green energy in the future and share that knowledge with students,” he said.
