'Avengers: Endgame Encore': How the New Scenes Connect to 'Doomsday' - Tempo.co English
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Seven years after Avengers: Endgame brought the Infinity Saga to a close, Marvel Studios is revisiting the blockbuster with Avengers: Endgame Encore. The re-release adds four new scenes that expand the story and create connections to the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.
As Variety reported, one of the most significant additions features Robert Downey Jr., who returns to the MCU as Victor von Doom in Doomsday. A new sequence brings Doctor Doom face-to-face with Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), establishing a direct connection between one of the original Avengers and the villain at the center of the next Avengers film.
The re-release also revisits Steve Rogers’ (Chris Evans) ending. In the original Endgame, Steve travels through time and chooses to live with Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell). Encore adds Loki (Tom Hiddleston) to that sequence, expanding the connection between Steve’s time-travel story and the MCU’s increasingly important multiverse storyline.
The new footage also brings the Time Variance Authority from the series Loki into the story, further highlighting the consequences of events involving multiple timelines and universes. This helps establish the broader multiversal crisis that leads toward Avengers: Doomsday.
Another important development is Downey's return. While audiences strongly associate him with Tony Stark and Iron Man, he will play a different character in Doomsday: Doctor Doom. As quoted by Marvel Studios, Director Anthony Russo said the filmmakers want to draw on audiences’ emotional connection to the MCU’s history while taking the story in a new direction.
That makes Endgame Encore more than simply a theatrical return for one of Marvel’s biggest films. The added material provides context for the transition from the Infinity Saga to the multiverse-driven conflict that will shape Doomsday.
Ultimately, Avengers: Endgame Encore uses familiar characters and moments to set up Marvel’s next chapter. With new material involving Doctor Doom, Hulk, Loki, and the TVA, the re-release gives fans additional pieces of the story connecting Endgame to Avengers: Doomsday.
