The United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP) has asked the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to investigate incidents that took place during the Bangsamoro Region’s first parliamentary elections.

The United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP) has asked the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to investigate incidents that took place during the Bangsamoro Region’s first parliamentary elections.

Four people passed away while 19 were injured in election-related incidents, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

“While the first Bangsamoro Parliamentary Election was generally successful we cannot overlook the lives that were lost and the people who were wounded during the election period,” the UBJP said in a letter dated September 15.

“We are deeply saddened that some UBJP supporters were among the victims. We hope that these incidents will be properly investigated and that the victims and their families will get the justice they deserve,” It added.

Comelec said three of those who died were at a shootout in a school in Cotabato City, which was triggered by a commotion between rival political supporters on the eve of the BARMM parliamentary elections.

One person died and three others were also wounded after violence erupted at the Pilot Central Elementary School, as supporters of rival parties traded accusations of election violence.

The UBJP also met with NBI Director Melvin Matibag and other NBI officials.

“We hope that the NBI will continue to look into these incidents and help establish the facts surrounding what happened. It is important to us that these cases are not simply set aside now that the elections are over,” it said.

The Bangsamoro parliament has 80 seats: 40 for party representatives, 32 for district representatives, and 8 for sectoral representatives.

On Thursday, Comelec said all winning candidates have been proclaimed. —VAL, GMA News
