Barcelona thrashed Racing Santander 7-2 on Wednesday to win their first seven matches of a season for the first time in the club’s history.
Joao Cancelo opened the scoring in the eighth minute with a spectacular long-range strike before Raphinha doubled Barcelona’s lead from the penalty spot in the 25th.
Racing Santander pulled one back through Maguette Gueye five minutes later, but Cancelo restored Barcelona’s two-goal advantage in the 36th minute with another long-range effort that deflected off Asier Villalibre and was credited as an own goal.
Raphinha completed his hat trick before halftime, scoring his second of the night in the 42nd minute to give Barcelona a 4-1 lead at the break.
The Brazilian’s first two goals came from the penalty spot.
Barcelona were awarded another penalty shortly before halftime, but Lamine Yamal failed to convert.
Yassir Zabiri reduced the deficit to 4-2 in the 65th minute, but Barcelona responded immediately as Raphinha converted another penalty one minute later to restore the three-goal advantage.
Gabriel Jesus extended the lead in the 79th minute before Yamal made amends for his earlier penalty miss by completing the scoring in the 89th.
Barcelona have now scored 33 goals in their seven matches this season, averaging nearly five goals per game.
The victory marked the first time in the club’s history that Barcelona have opened a season with seven consecutive wins.
