Beach Boys concerts quietly canceled amid 'short break' from touring - USA Today

Just before the Beach Boys were scheduled to return to the stage after a "short break" from touring, several of the band's shows were quietly canceled.

The venues scheduled to host the Sept. 24-27 concerts in West Springfield, Massachusetts; Quakertown, Pennsylvania, and North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, announced on their websites that the performances had been canceled "due to circumstances beyond [their] control."

USA TODAY reached out to the band's representative for comment.

Following Bruce Johnston's exit in March after six decades with the group, frontman Mike Love is the only original member still touring with the California-born band as it celebrates the 60th anniversary of "Pet Sounds." On July 22, the 85-year-old announced in a social media post that "we’ll be taking a short break to recharge before getting back on the road in September."

Shows scheduled from July 23 to Sept. 3, which reportedly totaled nearly 30 tour dates, were postponed, with the "Surfin’ U.S.A." performers scheduled to return to the stage Sept. 24.

The next date, according to the Beach Boys' website, is Oct. 9 at the Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington, Illinois. Six shows are scheduled from October through November, according to the band's website.

In July, Dean Torrence of the duo Jan & Dean told Rolling Stone that Love was "struggling now."

“He's not well, and he's struggling, but he’s not going to stop until it’s really over," Torrence said.

Love also acknowledged experiencing emotional and physical setbacks in a June 15 Instagram post about the band's "uplifting" performance in England.

"Losing my sister, Maureen, on the first Anniversary of cousin Brian [Wilson]'s death, combined with my ongoing recovery from what started out as bronchitis, followed by COVID, has taken both an emotional and physical toll on me," Love wrote.

"I feel stronger every day physically, but I am heartbroken emotionally," his message continued. "I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else than with our audience. For me, our audience is the medicine, and the music is the cure."

Cofounder Brian Wilson died June 11, 2025, while drummer Dennis Wilson died after drowning in 1983. Youngest sibling Carl Wilson passed in 1998 after battling lung cancer. Al Jardine stopped touring with the band that same year, opting to pave his own path.
