Ben Johnson says weather was 'major factor' in Bears' loss vs. Vikings - Bears Wire

It was no mystery going into the Chicago Bears game against the Minnesota Vikings that the weather could play a factor, and it certainly did as it rained from start to finish in Chicago's 9-3 loss at Soldier Field.

A decrease in points was not surprising, especially with Brian Flores’ defense and after putting up nearly 60 points a week ago, but for Chicago to only score three points was surprising. Following the game, head coach Ben Johnson admitted that the weather certainly was a "major factor" in the game.

“The weather was a major factor of this game.  It was a big story of this game,” head coach Ben Johnson said.  “Both defensive coordinators did a great job making it very challenging for the opposing offense.  And so, I thought that was the tale of the tape.  And like I said, when you get into a game like this, that’s where every play is critical.  That’s where the turnovers really, really hurt you.  And obviously, the blocked field goal really hurts us as well.”

Chicago’s two turnovers were frustrating, especially the fumble by running back D’Andre Swift at the Vikings' 1-yard line. The Bears would have at least gotten a field goal out of that possession without that turnover, but most likely would have scored a touchdown. The ball was slippery with all of the rain, but a veteran like Swift should still know better than to fumble the ball, especially in that position on the field.

On the bright side, there is not any rain currently in the forecast for Chicago’s next game against the Philadelphia Eagles in their first prime-time game of the season. However, in all likelihood, the Bears will be without starting quarterback Caleb Williams who suffered a hamstring injury against the Vikings. It seems fair to say that the weather played a factor in his injury as well.
