Bengaluru man chases wife to hospital parking, attacks her with machete, pours acid
A 26-year-old woman was chased by her husband into the underground parking area of a hospital in Bengaluru on Thursday, where he attacked her with a machete and poured acid on her, police said. The incident was captured on camera, and police have arrested the accused, identified as Venkatesh. His wife, Madhumitha, who is a nurse in the same hospital, suffered injuries.
A video of the incident shows Venkatesh dragging and attacking a bloodied Madhumitha with a machete before throwing acid at her inside the underground parking area of Narayana Clinic in JP Nagar. He threatens onlookers who were recording the attack when they try to intervene. The reason behind the attack is yet to be ascertained.
Madhumitha works as a nurse at Narayana Clinic and has been employed there for around one-and-a-half years. She had stepped out of the clinic to have breakfast around 9:15 am when Venkatesh chased her into the hospital parking area, police said.
Police said Venkatesh arrived on a motorcycle carrying a knife, machete and acid and attacked his wife. He then attempted to flee the spot.
Traffic police personnel stationed at a nearby signal intervened and took Venkatesh into custody. He was subsequently arrested and police are questioning him.
Madhumitha, who is originally from Kolkata, is undergoing treatment at a private hospital for her injuries.
