Bilawal steps up consultations amid focus on Sindh govt performance

KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has stepped up his political engagements and consultations with the party leadership following his return to the country after a stay abroad, holding a series of meetings at Bilawal House to discuss the political situation, parliamentary affairs and the performance of the Sindh government.

At Bilawal House, the PPP chairman separately met senior party leaders and members of the provincial government, including PPP MNA Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah, MNA Syed Naveed Qamar, Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon, Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah and PPP Sukkur leader Syed Zairak Shah.

A brief statement issued by the Bilawal House on Monday said that Khursheed Shah discussed the prevailing political situation with the PPP chairman, while Naveed Qamar and Mr Bhutto-Zardari exchanged views on various matters relating to legislation in Parliament.

During his meeting with Sharjeel Memon, the PPP chairman was briefed on the progress of major public transport projects being undertaken by the Sindh government, the statement added.

The meeting with Nasir Shah focused on the performance and affairs of the local government department.

The political situation in Sukkur and Pano Aqil was discussed in a meeting between Mr Bhutto-Zardari and PPP leader Zairak Shah.

The latest round of meetings comes shortly after the PPP chairman resumed political engagements following his stay outside the country.

He returned last week and held separate meetings with PPP Punjab President and former prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf and PPP Azad Jammu and Kashmir President Chaudhry Yasin at Zardari House in Islamabad.

“In those meetings, the [PPP] chairman discussed the prevailing political situation with Raja Pervez Ashraf, while political affairs concerning Azad Jammu and Kashmir came under discussion with Chaudhry Yasin,” said a party leader.

“The back-to-back meetings indicate that the chairman is engaging with party leaders at different levels as well as members of the Sindh government on political, parliamentary and administrative matters.

“The meetings at Bilawal House also bring into focus the PPP leadership’s attention to both party affairs and the performance of its government in Sindh, particularly in areas involving public transport and local government services”, the leader added.
