BMKG Weather Forecast: Indonesia to See Some Rain Today - Tempo.co English

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecast varying weather conditions across Indonesia on Saturday, September 26, 2026, ranging from thunderstorms to flood warnings. 

BMKG forecaster Miftah Ali, in a weather forecast broadcast in Jakarta on Saturday, issued a specific warning regarding the potential for extreme weather in Pekanbaru.

"We're starting from Sumatra Island; beware of the potential for thunderstorms in Pekanbaru City," said Miftah.

Further on the island, drizzles are predicted for Banda Aceh, Medan, Padang, Jambi, Bengkulu, and Bandar Lampung; while Palembang and Pangkal Pinang are likely to be shrouded in hazy air.

Turning to Java, Bali, and Nusa Tenggara, Miftah explained that light rain is predicted for Serang, Jakarta, Bandung, and Mataram.

Meanwhile, cloudy weather will dominate Semarang, Surabaya, Denpasar, and Kupang, with hazy air potential being observed in Yogyakarta.

For Kalimantan, BMKG predicts light rain in Pontianak, Palangkaraya, Samarinda, and Tanjung Selor; while residents of Banjarmasin are advised to remain vigilant of haze with scorching temperatures reaching 37 degrees Celsius.

Moving to the east, the potential for moderate rain is monitored in Mamuju, followed by light rain in Palu, Nabire, Jayawijaya, and Jayapura.

Besides land weather conditions, Miftah also issued a warning for marine transport regarding the potential for waves as high as 2.5 to 4 meters in the Indian Ocean west of Mentawai to Lampung and south of Banten to East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

Coastal communities are also advised to anticipate high tides or tidal flooding along the coasts of North Sumatra, West Sumatra, East Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, and the coast of Central Kalimantan.

The BMKG reminds the public to adjust their activities with double vigilance for sudden weather changes.
