Brigadier Egen Moodley, the acting district commissioner of Gauteng police, is being investigated after images allegedly showing a dancer in a police uniform and him (Moodley) at a Sandton strip club emerged.

Police say the images are of poor quality and require authentication.

Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, spokesperson for Gauteng police, said the SAPS had noted the images allegedly linking the senior manager to the club, called The Grand, and the allegations made by a person alleged to be a dancer at the establishment.

While the allegations made by the dancer remain a part of the police investigation, Nevhuhulwi said the quality of the images were poor and that police was still awaiting clearer versions for proper assessment.

“The SAPS will register an enquiry to verify the authenticity, origin, or context of the images as well as when and where they were allegedly taken.

“The pictures will therefore be taken to the Cybersecurity Unit within Crime Intelligence for authentication and technical analysis.

“The outcome of that authentication process will determine further action.”

Nevhuhulwi said should the images be found to be legitimate, internal disciplinary processes would be instituted against the concerned senior manager in line with SAPS disciplinary regulations.

“The SAPS has clear policies governing the wearing of uniform, conduct of members both on and off duty. Any contravention, once established through proper processes, will be dealt with accordingly.”

The Grand, situated in Edenburg, gained attention after the arrest of suspended SAPS Deputy National Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Shadrack Sibiya two weeks ago.

Sibiya faces six charges, including rape, sexual grooming of a minor, human trafficking and negligent handling of a firearm.

It is alleged that he took three teenage girls to the stip club before allegedly taking them to a hotel, where he is accused of raping one of them.

During Sibiya’s court proceedings, the State heavily scrutinised the venue's operations, its distinction between restaurant and club facilities on the same premises, and its alleged frequent patronage by local law enforcement officials.
