Bus Crashes Into Trailer Truck on Terpeka Toll Road in Lampung, Driver Dies, 7 Passengers Injured

LAMPUNG, KOMPAS.com - An EPA Star bus collided with the rear of a trailer truck on the Terbanggi Besar-Pematang Panggang-Kayu Agung (Terpeka) toll road in Mesuji Regency, Lampung.

The accident resulted in the death of the bus driver, Waniri (55), a resident of Blora, Central Java.

Additionally, seven passengers sustained injuries.

Three of them suffered serious injuries, while four others had minor wounds.

Mesuji Police Traffic Unit Chief AKP Heny Gustina said the initial suspicion is that the bus driver fell asleep at the wheel.

However, Heny emphasized that this assumption is based only on passenger statements and is not yet a definitive conclusion on the accident's cause.

"According to passenger accounts, the bus driver was drowsy and hit the back of the trailer truck. But the exact cause is still being investigated by the Mesuji Police Law Enforcement Unit. The process is ongoing," said Heny on Sunday (9/20/2026).

According to the trailer truck driver, Amran (49), the Hino truck with license plate B 9605 PEV was traveling from Palembang towards Bandar Lampung.

The truck was driving in the slow lane.

At the same time, the EPA Star bus with license plate BG 7321 OI was traveling in the same direction in the fast lane.

The bus then moved into the slow lane.

However, during the lane change, the bus crashed into the back of the trailer truck.

"The Hino truck was in the slow lane. At the accident site, the EPA Star bus traveling in the same direction was in the fast lane. The bus then shifted to the slow lane, but during the lane change, it collided with the back of Amran's trailer truck," he explained.

The collision caused several bus passengers to be injured.

The three passengers with serious injuries are Tito (30), Rozani (60), and Nurhayati (39), all residents of Palembang.
