Cape Town gathering linked to Mpox cluster as SA cases rise to 18 - EWN

The number of Mpox infections is rising; there are 18 confirmed cases.

The Department of Health has confirmed several Mpox cases in the Western Cape and says the number will increase, with updated numbers expected on Monday.

Speaking on CapeTalk/702, the Department's Foster Mohale says preliminary findings reveal that the sudden rise in cases in the province was the result of a social gathering.

"Almost all those who tested positive, they happened to be at one place at a particular time in the last four weeks in Cape Town. So meaning that that particular event became an epicentre of Mpox."
