Cavite ecopark among world’s greatest places – TIME
MANILA, Philippines — Kaway’an EcoPark in General Trias, Cavite has been cited as one of the world’s greatest places of 2026, according to TIME Magazine.
Dubbed as a place to visit by travel writer Cynthia Rosenfeld, the groundbreaking bamboo eco-tourism destination was the sole representative of the Philippines in the prestigious global list.
“Clusters of bamboo columns beneath the pavilion’s canopy lend the space an enchanted, forest-like ambience,” Rosenfeld wrote.
She described the ecopark as an oasis with a 4,900 square feet open-air Marilag Grand Pavilion that was engineered with a steel skeleton to withstand typhoons. She also noted the arching Marajuyo Bridge over a lagoon.
Among the activities visitors can do are picnicking, boating, horseback riding, birdwatching, yoga and workshops on bamboo farming.
CitiHomes Builder and Development Inc. president Rosie Tsai said the construction of the Kaway’an Ecopark began in 2019 and officially opened in December 2025.
Tsai said that the bamboo destination reframes the “poor man’s timber” into a foundation for climate-resilient design and outdoor education.
“I love how the bamboo bends to the wind and yet it rises again. That’s the Filipino spirit. Resilience, perseverance, long suffering,” she said during a press tour.
Tsai said they are coordinating with the Department of Tourism for the accreditation of the flagship eco-tourism asset.
Kaway’an Ecopark is among the 100 extraordinary destinations chosen by the magazine based on the location’s new, exciting and relevant experiences.
