Chandigarh University's freshers program video gets people talking online
A performance at Chandigarh University’s Fresher’s Fiesta 2026 has become a talking point online after a video showing students doing a dance routine with lifts and dramatic choreography went viral.
The video was shared on Instagram by a student named Nitya and showed a performance organised as part of the fresher’s event, which was held to welcome the university’s new batch of students.
The clip featured six students performing in pairs. As the music played, the male performers were seen lifting their female classmates in their arms as part of the choreography. The performance continued as a popular Hollywood track built up to its beat drop, with students in the audience cheering loudly.
The video subsequently made its way to other social media platforms, including X, where it drew mixed responses.
Some users questioned the choice of choreography and criticised the organisers for allowing the performance at a university event.
Several comments focused on the physical nature of the routine, with users debating whether the performance was appropriate for a college fresher’s programme. Some also questioned the role of the organising committee in approving the act.
However, not everyone who watched the video agreed with the criticism. Some users said they did not find anything objectionable in the performance and described it as a normal part of college cultural programmes.
The contrasting reactions have since turned the short performance clip into a wider discussion about what is considered appropriate choreography at college events. While some viewers felt the routine crossed a line, others viewed it simply as a dance performance carried out as part of a student programme.
Videos of students’ performances inviting the internet’s ire are nothing new. Last month on Teacher’s Day, a performance at JB Institute of Technology in Dehradun was criticised after students danced to Ooh La La, Tu Hai Meri Fantasy during an academic excellence ceremony.- EndsPublished By: Srimoyee ChowdhuryPublished On: Sep 23, 2026 14:37 IST
