Chhattisgarh hikes PG stipend by up to 59%; 3rd-year students to get Rs 93,996

All postgraduate medical and dental students at government institutions in Chhattisgarh will receive increased monthly stipends from October 1, 2026. Under the revised stipend structure approved by the state government, third-year PG students will receive up to Rs 93,996 per month.

The revised rates were notified by the state government on September 26, following a proposal from the Directorate of Medical Education, Chhattisgarh. As per the official notice, first-year PG medical students will now receive a monthly stipend of Rs 85,050, up from the earlier Rs 67,500. For second-year students, the stipend has been increased from Rs 71,450 to Rs 90,027 per month.

For third-year postgraduate medical students, the monthly stipend has been revised to Rs 93,996, compared with Rs 74,600 earlier. The revised structure provides for a progressive increase in the stipend with each year of postgraduate medical training.

According to the details released by the state government, the increase amounts to around 26 percent for PG medical students across all three years.

The stipend revision will also cover postgraduate dental students enrolled in government dental colleges in Chhattisgarh. First-year PG dental students will now receive Rs 85,050 per month, compared with Rs 53,500 earlier. The third-year stipend has been raised to Rs 93,996 from Rs 59,200.

The revised stipend rates will come into effect from October 1, 2026. The decision follows a proposal submitted by the Directorate of Medical Education to revise the existing stipend structure for postgraduate medical and dental residents.

With the implementation of the new rates, the maximum monthly stipend for eligible PG students in government medical and dental institutions in Chhattisgarh will stand at Rs 93,996.
