Chhattisgarh man accused of faking Rs 48 lakh salary, wealth in marriage fraud case

A woman and her family in Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur have alleged that they were misled into a marriage after the groom and his family made claims about his job, salary and wealth that later turned out to be false.

According to the woman’s complaint, the groom, identified as Harshdeep, claimed to work as a Data Analyst Manager at a major company in Jaipur and said he earned an annual salary of Rs 48 lakh. His family also allegedly claimed to own 150 to 200 acres of land, while his father, Lodhan Ram, was said to have a business with an annual turnover of Rs 88 lakh.

Trusting these claims, the woman’s family agreed to the marriage.MARRIAGE TOOK PLACE IN MARCH

The wedding took place on March 12, 2026, at Hotel Patrician in Bilaspur.

The woman has alleged that after the wedding, questions arose over the information provided in the groom’s bio-data. She claimed that the bio-data given by Harshdeep was fake.

According to her, the groom’s father had also agreed to bear the wedding expenses. However, payments for some expenses, including catering and a car, were allegedly not made.

The woman further alleged that Rs 6.76 lakh was taken from her family before and after the wedding under various pretexts.DISPUTE AFTER ALLEGED CLAIMS CAME TO LIGHT

A dispute subsequently arose between the two sides after the woman and her family came to know more about the claims made in connection with the marriage proposal.

The woman initially lodged a complaint in Jashpur. Police registered a zero FIR and later transferred the case file to the Bilaspur police for investigation.

The allegations include claims about the groom’s employment, salary, family assets and business, along with the alleged collection of money from the woman’s family.WHAT POLICE SAID

Additional SP (City) Pankaj Patel said an FIR was registered based on the initial report and that the matter is now being investigated by the Bilaspur police.

Police have established contact with the groom and his parents, Patel said. Investigators are examining the allegations made in the complaint as well as the documents available in the case.
