China's National Day holiday box office tops 900 million yuan

Featuring a blend of cultural consumption and tourism, the film market during this year's week-long National Day holiday starting from October 1 has kept up a strong momentum. After a five-day streak of daily revenue reaching 100 million yuan, the total box-office earnings including advance sales for the holiday has exceeded 900 million yuan (around US$134.2 million).

During the holiday, a list of new domestic and foreign films hit cinemas nationwide, covering various genres such as family-friendly, animation, crime thrillers, comedy and socially themed dramas, providing a wide range of viewing options for the public.

So far, the top three films at the National Day film box office are "Traces of Justice," "Resident Evil," and "Mr. and Mrs. Pardon." The crime thriller "Traces of Justice," based on the real-life work of a forensic evidence specialist, follows investigators as they use physical evidence to solve criminal cases.

This year, the trend of film-inspired tourism continues to boom in many places across the country. For example, with the continuing popularity of the crime film "V," its shooting locations in Jiangmen, Guangdong drew many tourists to visit the iconic qilou buildings and ancient villages there. Meanwhile, a variety of cultural activities introduced across the country during the holiday also added to this trend. In Qingdao, Shandong, in addition to film-themed trains and tour routes, seaside open-air film screenings, film carnivals and cultural fairs were also organized to create new consumption scenarios for tourists.
