‘CM Himanta is scared of getting exposed’: Ashutosh Ranka, CJP protesters detained in Assam - The Indian Express

Assam Police detained Ashutosh Ranka and members of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) during a volunteer meet-up in Assam, the CJP posted on X.

CJP leader Abhijeet Dipke said lawyers were outside the location where Ranka and others were detained but were not being allowed to meet them. Dipke earlier alleged the group was being taken to an unknown location. Ranka, who reached Guwahati a day ago, was scheduled to meet some CJP supporters during the day.

In a post on X, Ashutosh Ranka said, “Whenever Himanta gets scared, he sends the police ahead.”

“Himanta Biswa Sarma fears that we will reveal the truth about Assam’s schools, Kaziranga National Park, and the state’s “man-made” floods to the nation”, he said in a video included in the post.

The Kazriranga controversy centres on Assam’s proposed revision of the Eco-Sensitive Zone (ESZ) around National Park from the default 10-km buffer to a site-specific 1–3 km zone.

In a separate post, CJP said its volunteers were detained by Assam Police during a “peaceful meet-up” while discussing the need for a better education system. The group said it would continue its campaign.
