Colleen Hoover calls Anne Hathaway's casting in Verity a 'pinch-me' moment

Actor Anne Hathaway has officially won over Verity author Colleen Hoover. Ahead of the film’s India release, Hoover told India Today that Hathaway “nailed” the role of the troubled author Verity Crawford, adding that the psychological thriller could be the perfect way to cap the actor’s year.

In an exclusive statement to India Today, the author of the bestselling novel opened up about Hathaway taking on the titular role in the upcoming psychological thriller.

“She nailed it. Seeing all the different roles she’s playing and her range, I feel like this is a great movie to cap off the year of Anne Hathaway,” Hoover said.

For Hoover, Hathaway’s casting also came with a personal connection. She revealed that The Princess Diaries is her husband’s favourite film and that he is a longtime fan of the actor.

“Also, The Princess Diaries is my husband’s favourite movie. He loves Anne Hathaway. I was so excited to tell him when she signed on. He and I still just feel like we pinch ourselves every day. It still feels surreal,” she said.

Hathaway plays renowned author Verity Crawford in the film, with Dakota Johnson playing Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer who is brought to the remote Crawford estate to complete Verity’s book series after the celebrated author is left unable to write. Things take a darker turn when Lowen discovers what appears to be Verity’s autobiographical account, containing disturbing revelations about her husband Jeremy (Josh Hartnett) and their family. As Lowen reads through the manuscript, the boundaries between truth and fiction begin to blur.

The film adaptation follows the central premise of Hoover’s bestselling novel while bringing the story to the screen with Hathaway, Johnson and Hartnett at its centre. Directed by Michael Showalter, Verity is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and distributed internationally by Sony Pictures Releasing International.
