Amid pressure from legislators and party leaders seeking appointment as heads of boards and corporations, the Congress top brass is expected to hold further discussions on the issue next week.

While Congress general secretary in charge of Karnataka, Randeep Singh Surjewala, met Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and a host of legislators late on Thursday, the list of probable appointees is expected to be discussed in Delhi next week when the Chief Minister is there to participate in a Congress Working Committee meeting, party sources said.

According to sources, Mr. Surjewala met around 25 legislators on Thursday to discuss the issue. “About 10 to 12 chairpersons of boards and corporations are likely to be retained while new faces are accommodated,” a source said, adding that discussions on filling the two remaining vacancies in the Cabinet would also take place in Delhi.

Meanwhile, lobbying has intensified for the five nominated seats in the Karnataka Legislative Council, which are currently vacant. “A number of former Council members as well as fresh faces are in the fray this time. There is also a proposal to accommodate an ST representative and a Lambani community representative in this round,” sources said.
