Court admits actor Ansiba Hassan’s contempt plea against SHO

Actor Ansiba Hassan has moved a contempt of court petition against the Station House Officer (SHO) of the Palarivattom police before the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court, Ernakulam, on Wednesday (September 30, 2026). The court admitted the petition and issued notice to the Keralam government. The case has been posted to October 6.
The court had last week directed the Palarivattom police to investigate a private complaint filed by Ms. Hassan against actor Lakshmipriya and representatives of CAN Channel for allegedly publishing and disseminating videos containing false and sexually coloured allegations against her through various social media platforms with the intention of outraging her modesty.
The petition sought an explanation from the SHO as to why only Ms. Lakshmipriya had been booked, and that too solely for criminal defamation, allegedly contrary to the court’s order dated September 25. Ms. Hassan pleaded with the court to direct the SHO to conduct an investigation in conformity with the order by incorporating the offences disclosed in the complaint and arraying all the accused named therein. She also urged the court to entrust the investigation to an officer other than the SHO concerned.
The petition further urged the court to initiate proceedings under Section 215 read with Section 379 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) against the SHO and conduct such inquiry as may be deemed necessary.
Last week, the Magistrate had forwarded the complaint filed by Ms. Hassan to the police for a proper investigation under Section 175(3) of the BNSS. The petitioner alleged that the accused, by creating and circulating sexually coloured videos targeting her on social media, had committed offences punishable under Sections 75(4) (sexual harassment), 79 (insulting the modesty of a woman), and 61 (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, and Section 119(a) (atrocities against women) of the Kerala Police Act.
She sought the registration of an FIR against the accused, including Ms. Lakshmipriya, Sukumar, owner of CAN Channel, and Suresh, who had interviewed Ms. Priya.
