Court discharges jury in Abby Choi murder trial over sick juror, causing delay - South China Morning Post

Brian WongPublished: 11:48am, 28 Sep 2026Updated: 4:17pm, 28 Sep 2026The High Court has discharged a recently empanelled jury from the murder trial of slain Hong Kong socialite Abby Choi Tin-fung’s former relatives after one member asked to be excused for health reasons, leading to a delay in proceedings.

Deputy Judge Brian Keith informed the seven men and two women on Monday that he had accepted the unidentified member’s request and decided that a new panel had to be formed to ensure the jury selection complied with legal precedent.

A new jury will be empanelled on Wednesday.

The prosecution was originally scheduled to present its opening statement on Monday, giving investigators’ account of the 28-year-old’s death and the disposal of her body in a Tai Po village house in February 2023.
