CSIR-NIIST and Tata Consumer Products Ltd to establish Centre of Excellence for Food Fortification in Thiruvananthapuram

The CSIR-National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (CSIR-NIIST), Thiruvananthapuram, and Tata Consumer Products Limited (TCPL) are establishing a Centre of Excellence for Food Fortification Innovation, Research and Training (CEFIRT) in Thiruvananthapuram.
CEFIRT will come up at the CSIR-NIIST Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship (ITE) Hub at the Bio 360 Life Sciences Park, Thonnakkal, CSIR-NIIST said in a statement on Friday.
The two institutions inked a memorandum of understanding during the 85th CSIR Foundation Day celebrations held in New Delhi on Friday. Union Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh, and CSIR director general N. Kalaiselvi were present on the occasion.
CEFIRT will bring together the scientific and technological expertise of CSIR-NIIST with TCPLβs industry experience in food products, nutrition and product innovation, according to NIIST.
NIIST director C. Anandharamakrishnan stressed the importance of bringing together scientific expertise and industrial capabilities to develop innovative, scalable and impactful solutions in food and nutrition. Vikas Gupta, Global Chief R&D Officer, TCPL, emphasised the importance of industry-led innovation and collaborative research in developing effective food fortification solutions with wider societal impact.
