CSOs petition ICPC, demand Adeola’s resignation over alleged budget manipulation - The Guardian Nigeria News
The Coalition of Civil Society in Nigeria has petitioned the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC), demanding an investigation into the alleged role of Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, Olamilekan Adeola, in alleged irregularities surrounding the 2026 Federal Appropriation process.
The petition was signed by its Convener, Buna Olaitan, and General Secretary, Wyseman Ajayi.
However, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State has dismissed allegations questioning the eligibility of its 2027 governorship candidate, Oladipupo Adebutu, describing them as fabrications by political detractors.
Meanwhile, Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is set to hold an interfaith praise and prayer concert today to seek the face of God for all the party’s candidates for the 2027 general elections, including President Bola Tinubu, Senator Adeola, governor of the state and candidate for Ogun East Senatorial District, Dapo Abiodun, among others.
The Coalition, therefore, demanded that Adeola relinquish his chairmanship of the appropriations committee to allow for an impartial investigation and urged the ICPC to arrest and prosecute him if its investigation establishes criminal responsibility.
The petition was copied to the Inspector-General of Police, Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), National Security Adviser (NSA), Director-General of the Nigeria Intelligence Agency, Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Senate President, U.S. Embassy and Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA).
The party was reacting to claims by the Ogun Democratic Accountability Forum (ODAF) that Adebutu’s name was omitted from its official membership register.
In a statement yesterday, the State Publicity Secretary, Kayode Adebayo, said Adebutu remains a fully registered, financial and undisputed leader of the party in the state.
Adebayo said the party strictly complied with all legal and statutory requirements under the Electoral Act regarding the submission of the membership register to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) within the stipulated deadlines.
According to the PDP, the false narrative was aimed at covering up unresolved questions about Senator Adeola’s indigene status.
According to the organisers, the concert, tagged “Vision 2027 Concert,” is scheduled to be held at Ake Place, Abeokuta, Ogun State, bringing together participants for an interdenominational gathering of thanksgiving, praise, and prayers.
According to the party, the concert was conceived as an opportunity to bring people together in thanksgiving and prayer while committing the future into God’s hands. The concert is also intended to give thanks for God’s faithfulness and seek His direction as the 2027 political season approaches.
Besides, the interdenominational gathering would provide a platform for Christians and Muslims to collectively offer prayers, seek divine guidance, and express gratitude for God’s faithfulness.
