Death of man found at Coober Pedy mine non-suspicious, police say

The death of a man whose body was found at a mine site near Coober Pedy in South Australia's outback on Thursday has been deemed non-suspicious, police say.

Police were called to the open-cut mine south of the main township just before 9:30am on Thursday, after the 36-year-old's body was found.

They earlier said the cause and circumstances of the man's death were being investigated, but issued an update to say that a post-mortem had now been completed.

"The death of the 36-year-old local man has been deemed non-suspicious," police said.

Local police attended the scene, along with Major Crime detectives and Forensic Response officers.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

Coober Pedy is well known for its opal mines, which dot the landscape around the town.
