Delhi teen stabbed to death after intervening in quarrel over 'call me papa' remark
An 18-year-old youth was stabbed to death after he stepped in to stop a quarrel that began over a teenager being asked to call an acquaintance "papa", police said on Tuesday. Three members of a family have been arrested in connection with the killing.
The accused have been identified as Rajesh Kumar, 45, and his sons Aman Kumar, 22, and Anurag, 21, all residents of Naraina Village in west Delhi. Police said the victim, Sumit, was attacked during the altercation and was later declared dead at hospital.
According to police, the incident took place on the night of September 19 when Aman Kumar and his friend Narsingh were returning to Naraina Village on a motorcycle from Payal Cinema. On the way, they met Sumit and Aman Singh and began interacting with them. During the conversation, Aman Singh allegedly asked Narsingh to call him "papa", after which a quarrel broke out. Police said Aman Kumar then allegedly threatened Aman Singh with a knife, and Sumit intervened as the argument escalated.
A mutual friend of Sumit and Aman Kumar, Sargam, also reached the spot and tried to intervene, police said. During the altercation, Sumit was allegedly stabbed, following which Aman Kumar called his younger brother Anurag. Police said Anurag then arrived at the spot with their father Rajesh, and the two assaulted Sumit, who was already injured. Rajesh also allegedly threatened Sumit with a stick before the three fled, officials said.
Police said Sumit's family was informed, and he was taken to DDU Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Sargam also suffered injuries in the fight. During the investigation, police traced Rajesh and his two sons and arrested them. The weapon allegedly used in the crime and the accused's blood-stained clothes were recovered at their instance, police said. A murder case has been registered at Naraina police station on the statements of eyewitnesses.
