Detroit strip club shooting kills three after altercation, leaves four injured

Three people were killed and four others were injured after an argument led to gunfire at an after-hours strip club in Detroit on Sunday morning, officials said. Police said the shooting took place at a location that was already known to the department.

Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison said all the victims were believed to be in their 20s and 30s. Four people who were hurt were taken to hospitals in private vehicles, and officials said their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

Police responded to the shooting at 7.21 am on a largely residential street and found three men who had been shot dead, Bettison told reporters at a press conference. The four injured people were identified as two men and two women.

"A fight occurred, an altercation occurred, and as a result individuals decided to settle it with gun violence," Bettison said. He added, "This address is not new to the Detroit Police Department," and said police had received seven calls to the location this year. He said the department had leads but did not give further details.

Bettison described the site as an after-hours venue. "This was an after-hours location," he said of the shooting scene. "Imagine a strip club. ... I'll leave it at that."

Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield urged people with information to come forward. "We know that we need more people to speak up to bring justice to the situation," she said at the press conference. "It's heartbreaking and our community should not suffer from this type of violence."

Earlier on Sunday, a separate shooting at a birthday party in a park in Macon, Georgia, left 12 teenagers with gunshot wounds, Bibb County Sheriff David Davis said at a press conference. Two of the injured were in critical condition, while the others were stable. There were no immediate arrests, but Davis said investigators had several persons of interest.
