DMK's Stalin attacks CM Vijay over Tamil Nadu power cuts affecting state ministers
DMK president M K Stalin on Saturday attacked the Tamil Nadu government over recurring power cuts, claiming that even ministers were being affected during public events. Mocking Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, he said the situation spoke for itself and took a swipe at the chief minister's recent visit to the headquarters of the Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Limited.
In a post on social media, Stalin said that if ministers in the TVK government were facing power outages, the condition of ordinary people needed no explanation. Referring to Vijay's recent inspection at TNPDCL, he said the chief minister did not appear to have reviewed the issue and instead "appears to have recorded reels (for social media)".
Stalin alleged that there was a power cut when Law Minister R Nirmal Kumar recently attended an event in Madurai. He said a similar incident took place when Higher Education Minister P Viswanathan was addressing a function in Thanjavur.
The former chief minister also shared a card on his social media handle carrying screenshots from television channels on power outages during events attended by ministers. Citing media reports, he claimed that similar power cuts were seen during separate programmes attended by Ministers K A Sengottaiyan, Aadhav Arjuna and V Gandhiraj.
In his post, Stalin said: "In the TVK regime, if this is the situation faced by the ministers themselves, there is no need to comment on the plight of the ordinary people." He also referred to the government as a "reels regime", a phrase the Opposition has often used against the TVK government as power cuts have increased in the state in recent times.
The TVK had relied on social media extensively to win power in Tamil Nadu and, in the run-up to the April 2026 Assembly polls, had used conventional methods such as public meetings only to a limited extent. Stalin's latest remarks linked that image to the government's handling of the power situation in the state. - EndsWith PTI inputs
