Dolphins named as a top landing spot for veteran RB in trade - Dolphins Wire

The Miami Dolphins lost De'Von Achane for the year during their Week 3 matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs, leaving the team with Ollie Gordon II and Jaylen Wright as their only two backs on the active roster.

While they have options on the practice squad, they may consider adding a player to the room, and this week, Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox identified the Dolphins as potential suitors for Kenneth Gainwell in a trade.

Gainwell, 27, played at Memphis from 2018-20, earning All-AAC honors and winning the Shaun Alexander Award in in 2019. The Philadelphia Eagles took him in the fifth round (No. 150 overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft. He won a Super Bowl in Philadelphia and spent four years before joining the Pittsburgh Steelers for the 2025 season and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this offseason.

In 85 games over his six seasons in the league, Gainwell's rushed for 1,747 yards and 17 touchdowns on 4.4 yards per attempt. He's also caught 179 passes for 1,215 yards and four touchdowns.

There's a connection for Gainwell on Miami's staff, as he and Dolphins passing game coordinator Kevin Patullo spent four seasons together in Philadelphia. At time, Patullo served as pass-game-coordinator and assistant head coach.
