Dozens of Bangkok streets flooded amid non-stop rain - Bangkok Post

The Drainage and Sewerage Department of the BMA said that as of 5.30pm, water levels in dozens of locations ranged from 5.6 centimetres to 28.5cm.

The heaviest flooding, 28.5cm deep, was on Lat Phrao 122 Road, followed by 20cm on sections of Ram Intra, Nawamin, Ramkhamhaeng, Bang Na-Trat, Sukhonthasawat, Suwinthawong, Wachiratham Sathit, On Nut, Sukhumvit, Srinagarindra and Lat Phrao 89 roads.

Floodwater measuring 15cm deep was reported on Chaeng Watthana, Luang Phaeng, Nakhaniwat and Lat Phrao 110 roads.

Flood levels were at 14.4cm on Chalerm Prakiat Rama IX Road (Sri Udom intersection), 13.3cm on Phetchaburi Road, 11.6cm on Nawamin Road (Santi Asok) and 10.3cm on Srinagarindra Road (Wat Sri Iam).

Inundations reached 10cm on Sala Daeng, Pracha Uthit, Chao Khun Thahan, Siha Buranukit and Pattanakan roads.

Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt said a low-pressure system brought rain from the Gulf of Thailand to the capital and caused persistent rain from Thursday night into Friday, especially in eastern districts.

The highest rainfall amount over the past 24 hours measured 168 millimetres in Klong Sam Wa, followed by 153mm in Min Buri district and 145mm in Lat Krabang. Local canals consequently overflowed and City Hall was accelerating drainage in the canals.

The Meteorological Department predicted heavy rain to continue in the Central Plains including Greater Bangkok, the North, the Northeast, East and South until Sunday. That would result from an active low-pressure cell moving from the East to the Central Plains.
