DRDO scientist Gopinath K. takes charge as DMRL director

Eminent materials scientist and defence researcher Gopinath K. has assumed charge as director of the Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL), Hyderabad.
DMRL is a premier laboratory of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) dedicated to the development of advanced materials for India’s defence sector. Prior to his appointment, Mr.Gopinath served as an Outstanding Scientist and Associate Director at DMRL, where he led several high-priority aeronautical materials projects and core research programmes.
He joined DRDO in 1994 and spent more than three decades contributing to the development of indigenous technologies critical to India’s national security. Between 1994 and 2008, he played a key role in the indigenous development of materials and components for the Kaveri engine programme, working closely with multiple industries.
After moving to DMRL in 2008, he focused on advancing high-temperature materials and specialised naval steels, contributing significantly to the development of critical technologies for India’s naval and aerospace platforms.
An alumnus of some of the country’s leading engineering and research institutions, Mr.Gopinath earned his B.E. from PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore in 1992, M.Tech. from IIT Kanpur in 1994 and Ph.D. from IISc-Bengaluru in 2009, said a press release on Wednesday.
