Drunk driving suspected in ECIL hit-and-run that left seven bar workers injured

Seven workers of a bar and restaurant were injured, three of them seriously, after a car allegedly driven by a drunk driver hit them from behind near ECIL in the early hours of September 29.

Police identified the driver as Pavan Kumar, 36. A notice has been issued to him and his blood samples have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for analysis as part of the investigation into suspected drunk driving.

The accident occurred around 12.30 a.m. near a junior college when the workers were walking home after completing their shift at a bar and restaurant in S.P. Nagar, Moula Ali.

According to a complaint lodged by their co-worker Vikram Kumar, 25, the car, a Hyundai Verna, came from behind at high speed and allegedly hit the group. The driver did not stop after the collision and fled the spot.

Ajay Kumar, Bipin Kumar Yadav and Rajesh Yadav sustained serious injuries and were admitted to hospital. Mukesh Kumar Yadav, Ranjan Yadav, Biwash Kumar and Kapender Yadav suffered bleeding injuries.

The injured were initially taken to a private hospital at ECIL for first aid and subsequently shifted to another hospital for further treatment. Three of them were admitted owing to the severity of their injuries.

The Kushaiguda police registered a case under Section 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita following the complaint received around 2 a.m. Further investigation is under way.
