EC police urge assistance regarding alleged kidnapping, assault of Sikhobeni woman - EWN

Police in Bityi, Eastern Cape, are urging anyone with information that could assist in their investigation into the alleged kidnapping and assault of a 35-year-old woman from Mhaga Location in Sikhobeni to come forward.

A video is circulating on social media showing a man assaulting the tied-up woman.

Police spokesperson Nobuntu Gantana is calling on the public not to circulate the footage further, as doing so may subject the victim to secondary victimisation.

Gantana said no arrests have been made, and the suspect, who's known to the police, is currently on the run.

“Gender-based violence and femicide remain a priority crime and are treated with the utmost seriousness. Victims are urged to report abuse, and perpetrators will be held accountable through the criminal justice system.”

Police discourage any form of vigilantism and urge the community to allow the law to take its course. 

The investigation continues, and no further details can be shared at this stage to protect the integrity of the investigation.
