EMPD fires top cop Julius Mkhwanazi following a series of criminal charges - EWN
Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) top cop Julius Mkhwanazi has been fired following a series of criminal charges.
The City of Ekurhuleni has finally concluded Mkhwanazi’s internal disciplinary hearing, three years after it was initially meant to begin.
He was accused of unlawfully issuing police blue lights to a company linked to alleged criminal figure Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.
Mkhwanazi was facing a total of four internal charges, which led to the termination of his contract.
Mkhwanazi’s year keeps getting worse, as he’s now suffered yet another blow.
From being arrested five times in five months to having his bail recently denied, Mkhwanzi is now jobless.
In one of his criminal cases, the embattled cop is accused of helping dispose of the body of murdered businessman Emmanuel Mbense.
In another case, he’s accused of facilitating the theft of almost R15 million worth of precious stones, which were later sold for just R110,000.
