Fire at Teluk Intan Apartment in North Jakarta Extinguished, No Casualties Reported

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The fire at Teluk Intan Apartment in Penjaringan, North Jakarta, on Sunday night (20/9/2026) has been extinguished.

Gatot Sulaiman, Head of the North Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-department, said the fire was put out at 8:38 p.m. WIB after burning for two hours.

"The extinguishing process was successfully completed safely," Gatot said when confirmed by Kompas.com on Sunday.

The Central Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-department received the fire report at 6:17 p.m. WIB from a resident's phone call.

Firefighters arrived at the scene at 6:29 p.m. WIB and immediately began extinguishing the fire one minute later. Around 7:00 p.m. WIB, cooling efforts were conducted.

During the operation, 16 fire trucks and 80 personnel were deployed to the location.

Fifteen units came from North Jakarta and one Bronto unit from Central Jakarta.

Officials also successfully evacuated 53 people trapped inside the apartment.

The evacuees included 21 adult males, 24 adult females, seven children, and one senior citizen.

"There were no casualties," he added.

Gatot revealed that the fire started from an electrical panel on the 8th floor, then spread to the 5th, 6th, 7th, 9th, and 10th floors of the apartment.

Before the fire department arrived, apartment security personnel had tried to extinguish the flames using handheld fire extinguishers (APAR), but were unsuccessful.

"Local residents who saw thick smoke coming from the apartment windows immediately called the North Jakarta fire department at 6:17 p.m. WIB to request assistance in extinguishing the fire. Subsequently, North Jakarta firefighters deployed 16 units to carry out the extinguishing operation," he explained.
