Former SB champion Bruce Arians crushes often-used Drake Maye argument - Patriots Wire

Former NFL head coach Bruce Arians discussed the struggles of New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye during a recent interview with Kay Adams this week.

Maye is coming off an ugly game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, when he recorded 199 passing yards, no touchdowns, two interceptions and one fumble. It ultimately led to a 35-6 blowout loss to the Jaguars, dropping the Patriots' record to 1-2

Some have argued that Maye's talent was overestimated last season due to the Patriots having an easier schedule. However, Arians, a former Super Bowl-winning head coach, pushed back on those arguments when appearing on Up & Adams.

“I think just pressing too much, you know? The expectations of getting where they got last year," said Arians. "And I think they, [Mike Vrabel] did an unbelievable job of coaching that team last year. And again, I think he could use a couple of weapons around him, but I think he’s just pressing too much and trying to be a Superman all the time, which he doesn’t need to be. Just go play quarterback.

"...No, it's not [the schedule]. The schedule in the NFL, it's proved it Sunday. Yesterday, everybody got upset. Washington with Mariota, great win. ...And all the way down the list, Browns. ...It's the NFL. There are no easy Sundays."

Since the AFC Championship Game against the Denver Broncos last year, Maye has struggled against tougher competition. He has 950 passing yards, four touchdowns and nine interceptions during that timeframe.

With that said, he will get his top wide receiver, A.J. Brown, back in the mix at some point, and there's a chance that things will eventually settle down around him. Perhaps then Maye can get back to flashing the same elite talent that he showed last season.
