Four persons killed in road accidents in Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai

Four persons, including a father and daughter, were killed in two separate road accidents near Sholinghur and Chetpet towns in Ranipet and Tiruvannamalai districts on Friday.

Police said the deceased victims were identified as R. Suresh Babu, 48, S. Madhumita, 21, B. Sundaram, 33, and J. Thangaraj, 34.

In the first incident, Suresh Babu, who works at a private firm, was going to his hometown in Tiruttani town with her daughter Madhumita on a two-wheeler from their house in Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh.

Initial inquiry revealed that Babu and Madhumita were on their way to a function at a relative’s house in Tiruttani. Babu lost control of the vehicle and hit a government bus in Pillanji village, near Sholinghur town, in Ranipet. The bus was proceeding towards Sholinghur town.

In the impact, the duo were thrown from the two-wheeler. Immediately, passersby and other motorists shifted them to Government Taluk Hospital in Sholinghur, where doctors said they were brought dead. A case was registered.

In a separate accident, Sundaram, 36, Thangaraj, 36, and Selvaraj, 36, from Kanthapalayam village near Arani, were returning to their hometown after dropping their friend K. Satyamurthy, 35, at Chennai airport. Sundaram, who was driving the car, lost control and hit a lorry coming from Salem on the Vandavasi–Chetpet Main Road.

The car got crushed in the impact and Sundaram was killed on the spot. Thangaraj died on the way to Government Medical College Hospital in Tiruvannamalai town, and Selvaraj is under treatment. Police arrested the lorry driver, K. Anbu, a native of Salem. Chetpet police registered a case, and further probe is underway.
