The Eagles could be considering another option at left guard as they continue preparing for Sunday’s matchup against the Tennessee Titans.

Fred Johnson lined up at left guard with Philadelphia’s other starting offensive linemen during individual drills Thursday, according to Zach Berman. Cam Jurgens remained at center, while Drew Kendall worked at left guard with the second-team line and Willie Lampkin handled the backup center reps. The alignment was noteworthy, but it does not guarantee Johnson will start in Nashville. Reporters only watched the individual portion of practice before the Eagles moved into team drills and began installing their game plan.

Philadelphia also knew which portion of the workout was open to reporters, leaving open the possibility that the alignment was part of the team’s preparation or an effort to create flexibility without revealing its preferred combination.

Still, Johnson’s first-team work makes him a legitimate option at left guard.

The 6-foot-7, 326-pound veteran has primarily played offensive tackle, but his size, power, and experience could help stabilize the interior. Moving Johnson inside would also allow the Eagles to keep Jurgens at his natural position instead of shifting the veteran center to guard. Kendall and Lampkin give Philadelphia younger alternatives, but Johnson has appeared in 63 career games with 23 starts. That experience could carry additional value against a physical Tennessee defensive front.

The Eagles will provide more clarity with Friday’s injury report, but Johnson’s work beside the starters gives Philadelphia another possible solution at left guard.
